Trip Wrap-up

Almost three weeks home, and I've still barely begun to digest the emotional highs and lows of the last few weeks in India. Coming from a land where so many struggle for daily necessities to the height of American Christmas consumerism was quite a shock (not to mention the 70-degree drop in temperature).

We had a beautiful week of weather just before leaving Auroville, and made tremendous building progress the last few days. The concrete columns were poured, as well as ceiling-height ring beams. In addition, we were able to lay some partial brick walls. While we had known for weeks that the project would not be finished by the time we left, we felt extremely gratified to leave the site having a sense of the dimensions and height of the building. The small Hindu blessing ceremony we took part in the last day was a perfect farewell.

We feel very grateful to know the project is in good hands with Architecture for Humanity and everyone at Palmyra. We expect construction to be complete in a few weeks, and will post photographs of the final product as soon as we have them. In the meantime, here are some photos from the end of our trip. Once again, thank you to everyone for your support.
